No, it's not a warning regarding a PC Virus. This time, it's one of the old fashioned bugs doctors can't do anything about.

I' m still suffering after a week and wouldn't wish this on anyone. Don't know if it has a "name" but it's a fine start to 2013.

My father used to say, "It's not the cough that carries you off ; it's the coffin they carry you off in!" Not so sure about the first part of that saying at the moment!.

Have YOU been ill? If so, what's your remedy for getting back on one's feet as quickly as possible?

I've had the worst cold I've had for years. Started off with sore throat and streaming nose before turning into a terrible cough and sinusitis.  Don't really think there's much you can do except take the paracetamol type remedies, keep warm and sleep! Been nearly 2 weeks now but I am making the effort to go out every day and get some fresh air and am feeling a lot better even if I sound like a 40 a day smoker.  The awful grey days we're having don't help do they?

Have all your symptoms, apart from the sore throat. I have never smoked but I also have a terrible cough. I'm not a sun worshipper, never have been but would love some sunshine.

Two weeks? I;m just starting my second!

Am told there are two "nasty viruses" around : ours, and the norovirus. Nothing like being in fashion, is there!!

MY DADDY USED TO SAY THAT TOO MARYEMM AND HAVE YOU GOT THE DREADED NORO VIRUS? I REALLY HOPE NOT...... YOU TOO SARACENS.

THERE ARE SOME REALLY NASTY BUGS ABOUT AND I BET ITS DUE TO THE STERILE WORLD WE LIVE IN NOW... CANT EAT DIRT ANYMORE COS OF RISK OF DOG/CAT/RAT DODO'S AS SOON AS YOUR HANDS ARE DIRTY WASH THEM TO WITHIN AN INCH OF THE EPIDERMUS HOMES ARE KEPT GERM FREE AND WHAT AMUSES ME IS BLEACH I BOUGHT TODAY (OPPS HYPOCRITE lol) SAID KILLS THE COLD VIRUS SO SHOULDNT WE BE DRINKING THAT INSTEAD OF COSTLY REMEDIES?

ITS A THOUGHT THOU IF THEY CAN MAKE BLEACH THAT KILLS THE COLD VIRUS THEN RESEARCH MODIFYING IT SO WE CAN DRINK IT SAFELY WITHOUT STRIPPING THE LINING OF OUR MOUTHS AND STOMACS

I wish you all better soon. I have heard a lot of people have this dreaded virus. I always think a nice hot lemon tea, with a bit of honey and some brandy work very well. And at least it helps you sleep if nothing else. Jenny

Don't know if the sun shining but I feel better today! Can't believe how long it's takimng to shake off this bug. I am not usually ill.

Your remedy is great, Jenny. I do like brandy with hot water and either honey, or sugar. Was it once referred to as "Queen Anne's tea"? Very warming and soothing.

My grandmother used to dose colds with a LARGE glass of elderberry wine, home-made and probably off the alcohol scale. Even breathing out killed off the germs!!

Hi Maryemm

I'm so glad you're feeling better. A little sunshine is always good for the spirits.

When I'm feeling really heavy with a cold the lemon tea with honey and brandy really seems to help. But I didn't know it was called Queen Anne's Tea - I like the sound of that.

I also like the sound of your grandmother's home-made Elderberry Wine - I'm sure that killed off a few germs and sent you on a very pleasant sleep.

Here's wishing you a full recovery.

Jenny
