Did anyone watch last night's documentary on the finding of Richard lll's body in a car park? I thought it made great viewing and the 90 minutes just flew by.

I have always thought Henry Vll and his mother were responsible for the murders of the Princes in the Tower . The Tudors certainly were a ruthless lot and tyrants in the bargain.

Anyone from Leicester here who has followed the excavation and the story?

Well at least he tried to be a good king in the two years of his reign.

Reckon we still have devious tyrants around, although these days they are in the Government.

Makes you wonder how on earth wasnt he found before the car park was laid? shoddy workmen springs to mind. Ah hope he gets a better resting place now.

And yes Maryemm agree the tyrants are all in government with the leader the worse of them cutting all for the vunerable but hey lets give billions so the businessmen can have a fast train into London. Fiddle while Rome burns also springs to mind.

David Cameron has a page on Twitter and I joined so he and I could have nice chats... well I enjoy telling him what a total tyrant he is and shame on him for showing the vast divide between rich and poor and its getting bigger under him.

Sorry my biggest rant is him and his lapdogs

Now now, MaryEmm, lay off of our 'enry, direct descendent of John of Gaunt the founder of the House of Lancaster and forbear of the Lancastrian Kings of England.  We Lancasters have to stick together, you know,  (even if I am a born and bred Yorkshireman.  That's the awkward bit.)

Henry VII was not a "nice" [person and his mother,Margaret Beaufort, Duchess of Richmond, was a ruthless, ambitious woman who thought she should rule! After Henry became king she used to sign hername Margaret R!  (Richmond).Became very religious afterwards to try and appease Heaven, I reckon.

She was a direct descendant of John of Gaunt, from the formerly-illegitimate children he and Katherine Swinford had.

I admire John of Gaunt but I still have pity for Rrichard, who, unusually for his day and age, was too compassionate towards his enemies.

Now me, "Off with their heads" I'd have said, but then I'm Welsh!!

If being Welsh makes it OK to be an 'off with their heads' kind of monarch then you should surely have more sympathy with our 'enry.  He was a Pembrokeshire lad too, you know.  His poor old Ma was only a baby herself when she bore him.  If we are to deny him on the grounds of the 'legitimate heir'  question then we may end up having to admit that the rightful heirs to the British throne are in reality the Spanish and the Portugese.  Perish the thought.

QUOTE: The children of John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford were legitimized and given the surname Beaufort, though the legitimization specified that these children and their descendants were to be excluded from the royal succession.  Nevertheless, the Tudor ruling family was descended from these legitimized children of John and Katherine.UNQUOTE

This is interesting:

Yes, Henry was Welsh. That's why, being Welsh myself,  I KNOW he could be ruthless!!  :.)

Both King Henry VIII and his father..Henry VII (Owen Tudor) a Welshman could speak Welsh and so could Henry's elder brother Arthur who died at the young age of 16..

If there is one thing that is certain regarding legitimacy of the royal lines through the ages it is that nothing is certain.  Speculation and rumour as to exactly who sired whom have always been rife and rarely proven.  Even in today's royal family there are tales, nudges and winks concerning parentage.  I even heard one tale that they are all descended from inter-planetary alien lizards.  I am keeping an open mind but accepting nothing at face value.  It is pretty sure that many a moon will come and go before any of them agree to be DNA tested to see just who they really are and just how legit their claim to the crown really is.

"Alien lizards"? Well that's a new one on me!
