I collect bookmarks of all types, though I no longer look for leather because I find others more interesting. love the variety of materials used, the many different categories available (tourism, literary, advertising, handmade, social education....). Also they can be obtained for free from libraries and bookshops or you can pay anything from £1 to £100 or more so it's a collecting hobby to suit everyone's pockets. I exchange bookmarks with collectors all over the world.
Nanpam: bookmarks collected me! I used to buy lots of second-hand books and often found bookmarks left inside. Some were quite old. Lots of leather ones, some saying "Here I fell asleep," and such-like comments.
In the same way I found I had "cats" all over the house so I have them all together now. Have quite a few Norfolk cats and a full-size wooden one my husband gave me one Christmas. Lots of Doulton and Beswick ones from the offspring when they were younger. I see similar ones in the image above.
I have many collections and go from one to another. I liked little houses, then African artifacts, then clocks which I have six in the front room alone some not working but still good to look at, then candleholders still so many all over but useful if a power cut, my latest is angels cherubs and fairies but as they are dear to my heart they wont be resigned to the spare room as the other collections are.
David Winter cottages, china shoes, bird images, dollhouses...............you can see why I am always complaining about clutter.
I collect Aeroplane sick bags, sani-bags and other similar items of ephemera. I have over 100 bags, un-used obviously. The designs vary, and also the quality. Some of them are so flimsy I doubt whether they are fit for purpose
I was showing my husband the groups in Sixyplusurfers and he said, "Theres a good one for you" pointing at collectors corner, I don't have any collections I said, Hubby smiled and said, "when was the last time you had a good look around this house?" So I did have a good look around and to my amazement I do actually collect things. I have over 30 pieces of blue and white china, 22 pieces of crystal glass, 24 pieces of Aynsley fruit pattern china, 10 David Winter houses, several old keys, clay pipes and old police whistles which I've box framed, 7 Shredded wheat dishes, a small collection of bad bears, over 20 Candle sticks, several china and wooden boxes, and dotted around the house over fifty pictures, 16 Jugs, Many clocks, and the list goes on and on, Oh and I forgot books, I do love my books. So YES I think I must be a collector.
I think you have been collected!! :O)
That was how I discovered I had a collection of china and wooden cats, china birds, china shoes, brooches. If you put them all together in one place..............................!!!
All the above comments made me realise I collect books about and by Louisa May Alcott and her family. Went to see an amateur production of 'Little Women the Broadway musical'. My friend had booked us front row seats and we were practically on the stage. It was good fun.
Used to collect miniature tea sets and cups and saucers and also old postcards but sold both collections.
I agree, I have lots of collections round the house. Old books, plenty of china cat ornaments, matchboxes from hotels and restaurants, Lego men - yes, really! And of course other household junk ....
Have my mother's old postcard collection. Views of old shops are always interesting, just to see how much a place has changed.
