Over the past few years I have lost my interest in cooking and it has become a chore. I used to love entertaining and making special food but we do far less of this now as we're older and close…Continue
I have so many favourite foods but I've decided to go with the chocolate cake which my mother used to make for our birthday cake. The recipe came from a book called "Syllabub in the Kitchen" published by Methuen and it was a hardback with a red cover. I have inherited the book and you can easily find the chocolate cake page because traces from bakings past are smeared over it! The cake mixture contains cocoa powder, chocolate powder and golden syrup and makes a rich and moist sponge with is sandwiched with cocoa flavoured butter cream. Sometimes Mum would ask if we wanted a different cake but we all chose this one - which came with the added bonus of a delicious bowl to be scraped out!
I've probably had better cakes since but this one comes with nostalgia and memories as well as delicious flavour!
That sounds delicious, and lovely that it brings back so many happy memories.
My favourite has to be cake too!My lovely Welsh grandmother used to make what we called "granny cakes",sort of soft, sponge large fairycakes.I remember being fascinated by how she would add the ingredients to the bowl without weighing anything!Sometimes she would ice them but I loved them best straight out of the oven, warm and crumbly.Everyone who visited loved them too.And like Jenny,we used to scrape the bowl out, mmm!
She was a great cook and her welshcakes came a close second.I make similar cakes for my grandchildren who love them but I don't think I'll ever recreate that wonderful taste that I remember.
Sausage, onion & mash. Just the smell of fried onions turns me green with envy.
I love to create healthy but tasty alternative recipes. My favourite is my vegetarian lasagne using low fat fromage frais instead of a stodgy cheese sauce & quorn instead of mince. It's a firm favourite with all my friends & family, vegetarians & meat eaters alike
I have lots of favourite foods (I do love to eat!) mmm - a nice roast dinner is hard to beat, and Chinese food, and Indian.... with a nice glass of wine of course!
When eating out I find it hard to resist Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding and all the trimmings. I always resolve to be more adventurous but just cannot resist it!
My favourite food varies with the season, just now I really like home made rhubarb crumble with ice cream.
My favourite food probably involves cheese, I love it in meals, cheeseboards and love to try new varieties
I love most pasta dishes, particularly when eating out as the washing-up is down to someone else.
Does chocolate count as a favourite dish?
